In our Unit of Inquiry called 'The Arts in Action' the  Central Idea was: The Arts are inter-related disciplines which can exist separately or in any combination.

To begin this unit we needed to find out what the arts are.   We discovered there are many activities, hobbies and professions which make up the arts.   Some of these are: Dance, Music, Painting, Martial Arts, Graffiti Art… Our class then discussed and agreed on a class definition of the arts.This is what we decided :

The Arts are things people do to communicate beauty, skills, knowledge and emotions using their imagination.

In Music class we were also able to look at the way music can be represented on paper.   We made our own graphics to represent the sounds we wanted.   We then chose the best ones from each group and recorded them. After, and outside of the music class, we began working on our artistic representations of these soundtracks so could experience and understand the connection of the arts.  The name of these pieces that we made in the music class are Rhythm, Storm and Melody.
