The Music
We created a multi tracked recording in which each member of the class played a different instrumental line (Anna - flute, Adarsh - violin, Brian - shaker, Arisa - xylophone, etc.).
Recording like this is an individual process with the limited equipment that we have, so it took quite a long time, but the results were well worth it.
The Video
When the music was ready we set about making a dance video for it, which is when the trouble began.
Because it's almost impossible for twenty people to work on one video, Mr Jackson thought we should try and achieve the impossible! So what we did is this:
- Each member of the class designed some camera shots on paper, planning the angle of the camera, who would be in the shot and what they would do.
- Then every member of the class had to become the Director for a time, taking control of the camera and filmong one of the shots that they had planned.
- To put the video together each student had a copy of the raw video footage on their C Drive which they could edit as they wished. After learning some basic video editing skills in ICT, they each had to create their own dance video based on the same original footage.
We should have ended up with 20 different dance videos, all with the same soundtrack. But we got none. Unfortunately Term 2 ended before any of the videos were quite finished and there this epic tale of techno struggle ended...
...almost.

Ever seen Lost in La Mancha, Terry Gilliam's film about his disasterous attempt to make a film of Don Quixote? Well in a similar spirit of archaeology, I set about rescuing the remains of the Grade 6 Pavane Dance Video. Finally, after numerous hours of fiddling about (I'm very glad I'm not an archaeologist!) we can now hear the great music we recorded and see something of what might have been.
Here it is, very roughly edited with little effort made to time the movements to the beats, no effects or transitions on the video either, but what you can see is students having lots of fun with a good sound track.
Why not download the mp3 and put it on your phone?
