Toys

Our Unit of Inquiry was about toys. During this unit, we focused on how things can move in different ways. We observed the cause of the sound, and how these causes (blowing, bowing, plugging, pushing, hitting…) are used to play different instruments.

House Music Competition

Listening to the fantastic support given to performers in the House Music Competition, it makes you realise what a great atmosphere ISB has. And what a wonderful bunch of students you are! Some of the performances in this year's competition were excellent, so it's well worth listening again. Switch on, turn up loud and enjoy!

Toot!

Posted in: Grade 3
tooty_80.jpg
Everyone in Grade 3 can play the trumpet! We made our own out of plastic hose pipes which were cut to three different lengths in order to play the notes C, F and G. We then made this video of ourselves playing a piece of music called Toot!, which only needed those three notes. Hope you like it. Now what shall we make? How about a trombone?...

Expression

Posted in: IGCSE
expression_80.jpg
This performance of Expression by one of the most famous contemporary music composers, Pierre Boulez was a major achievement for Grade 9. After studying other pieces by Boulez they chose to take on Expression, which is a small but feindishly difficult piece. After many weeks of practice and hours of recording time, we finally managed to get a recording which we felt did justice to the piece. We hope you enjoy it...

Winter Concert 2008

The most spectacular dancing ever witnessed at ISB was just one of the highlights of the 2008 Winter Concert. You can watch the videos here and in addition to gawping at the Secret Santas you can also enjoy some of the memorable musical moments. What did you like best? Amazing Grace, Tootle Pip, Because of You, Fidgets, TNT?... The list goes on and on. (Unfortunately the sound quality is bad on the loud numbers. See explanation below...)

The Thrill is Gone

mj_80.jpg
This website's for kids, isn't it? Well yes, but I hope to develop the About Us section to include information and examples from all the music teachers at ISB. So anyway, here's an example of what I get up to in my spare time...
The Thrill is Gone is a song I like by B.B. King and I thought it would be a good to see what it would sound like if I played all the instruments on it. I've done something like this a long time ago, but since then I've learned to use a computer and make videos too, so it was time to try again. I hope you like it!

The Pavane That Got Away

Posted in: Grade 6
tom-80.jpg
Many moons ago Grade 6 were working on producing a 21st Century version of an old dance tune called a Pavane. We multi-tracked a great sound track in which each member of the class is playing a different instrument. We then set about making a video for it, which is when the trouble began...

You Can Make it Happen

Posted in: Grade 8
fastcar-80.jpg
Can a song make a difference? In Grade 8 we have been writing songs with important messages which try to make people think a bit. This recording, played by all of Grade 8, is of a great song by Eugene with a powerful message. The whole class are playing on this recording and the video is also by Eugene...

The Piano Concert at Haeundae Cultural Centre, organised by Miss Kim, was a great experience for many students to perform on a good quality grand piano in a beautiful recital hall. The programme contained a huge variety of music and there were some outstanding performances. Listen again...

The Arts in Action

Posted in: Grade 5

kandiski_thum.jpg

In Grade 5's recent Unit of Inquiry called 'The Arts in Action', the c entral idea was: ' The Arts are inter-related disciplines which can exist separately or in any combination'. Read more and listen to the recordings to find out how the students interpreted that sentence...

Au Clair De La Lune

Posted in: Reception
moon-80.jpg
Reception have worked hard to be able to read the notes of this tune and play it on xylophones. Many people think xylophones are easy to play, but try hitting the right notes without looking... not so simple. So when trying to read music and play, this tune becomes more of a challenge. Did we nail it? Listen in and see what you think.

Baroque Ostinato

Posted in: Grade 7

Grade 7 AR have been studying Baroque music. At the end of the project they made this piece of music based on repeating patterns. These patterns are very common in Baroque music and are called ostinatos. The result is this interesting piece.
